Battle of Britain heroes honoured
ROADS at Redrow’s Wheatley Chase development have been named after local heroes Pilot Officer Walter Beaumont, Sergeant Geoffrey Garside and Pilot Officer Kenneth Manger.
It follows an appeal from Calderdale Council for ideas on how a permanent tribute could be paid to the airmen who fought in the Battle of Britain.
The roads are Manger Gardens, Garside Drive and Beaumont Chase, with an apartment building named Walter House. Coun John Hardy, Deputy Mayor of Calderdale, says: “Naming the roads in honour of these men is not just a tribute to their efforts, but also serves as a lasting memory to all servicemen involved.”
