THE Government has announced a cut to “Feed in Tariff” levels for owners of photovoltaic panels.

The FIT changes see the current rate of 43p paid out for every unit of renewable electricity generated to 21p per unit generated.

The changes take effect from December 12. British Gas say to qualify for the higher rate, your panels need to be installed by a Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) certified installer, who should register you on the central MCS database. The installer will then send you a certificate confirming MCS compliance. You will then need to send energy supplier a completed application form along with the MCS certificate by December 11.

They will then add you to the Ofgem Central FIT Register,
