AN architectural practice that played a major part in the newlook Leeds city centre has put its Leeds and Manchester offices into adminstration.

Carey Jones, now Careyjones Chapmantolcher studio north, blamed the “poor economic conditions in the region” for the closure and redundacy of 31 staff.

Founded by Gordon Carey and Chris Jones in Leeds in 1987, the company helped design a number of high-profile apartment schemes including Clarence Dock, Granary Wharf and Whitehall Waterfront

The firm’s London office continues to trade and the group shareholders have launched a new business called Leeds Studio, which will work on schemes across the North of England.
