Price of a home rises slightly

PROP­ERTY prices rose by 0.1 per cent across Eng­land and Wales in Fe­bru­ary to stand at £161,588, ac­cord­ing to the Land Reg­istry.

It says house prices had barely changed from a year ago and were down by 0.6 per cent over the 12 months.

London out­per­formed the rest of the coun­try, with a monthly price rise of 1.4 per cent and an an­nual rise of 4.2 per cent, with av­er­age prop­erty prices now £354,300. In con­trast, there were falls in sev­eral regions, in­clud­ing the North-east where house prices dropped 2.6 per cent be­tween Jan­uary and Fe­bru­ary.

The Land Reg­istry also re­ported that trans­ac­tions rose slightly be­tween Septem­ber and De­cem­ber last year.
