The project to up­grade a 12-mile chunk of the A1 to three lane mo­tor­way stan­dards be­tween Dish­forth and Leeming looks set to bring more buy­ers from West York­shire to places like Bedale, Northaller­ton and the sur­round­ing coun­try­side.

The im­proved traf­fic flow and speed lim­its will cut jour­ney times. Prices for pe­riod prop­er­ties in these ar­eas is 25 per cent lower than in the golden tri­an­gle, though that could change if de­mand soars.

Wens­ley­dale is a prime hunt­ing ground for those who want to live in the coun­try and work in Leeds. A cot­tage starts from as lit­tle as £80,000 and de­tached prop­er­ties can be bought from just un­der £300,000.
