Number of new homes doubles
THE average price of a new home in April was £226,859. This is down –1.9 per cent since March, and the first monthly price fall for nine months.
In Yorkshire, the price of new homes rose by 0.3 per cent in April but have fallen 3.1 per cent over the past 12 months.
Steven Lees, director of SmartNewHomes, says: “Buyers will be buoyed by the news that the number of new homes currently available to buy has doubled in the last year but the Government and industry should not rest on its laurels.
“This is from an extremely low base and we are still a long way from building the thousands of extra new homes needed each year to meet the UK’s housing demand.”
