DEVELOPERS SPOT THE WAITROSE EFFECT
WHEN Waitrose opened in the Meanwood area of Leeds, residents basked in the reflected glory.
The supermarket beloved of the middle classes did its homework and clearly thought that Meanwood was “worth it” and had identified the area as up-and-coming.
Other indicators of gentrification include the opening of a Sainsbury’s or a Booths.
New coffee shops, delis, bars, restaurants and upmarket hairdressers are a clear sign that money is moving into the area.
Developers are experts at spotting potential so if they start targeting sites in your neighbourhood then it shows they have confidence in it.
