Students ad­vised to study rent rises

THE av­er­age stu­dent rent has risen 2.4 per cent since last year, from £67.11 to £68.70 a week, say Ac­com­mo­da­tion for Students.

The AFS web­site in­cludes a ta­ble of rents for more than 100,000 prop­er­ties in 77 cities.

Lon­don has the high­est weekly rent of £107.29. Winch­ester rents rose 20 per cent from last year’s £71.80 to £86.40, Durham’s soared by 20 per cent from £66.75 to £80.21, while Lan­caster’s rock­eted by 24 per cent.

At £56.90 a week, Hull’s rents are good value, but they have also risen by 25 per cent since 2011. Rents in Leeds rose 5 per cent.

The best value is found in Pon­typridd at £45.94, fol­lowed by Stock­ton at £47.45, Stoke-onTrent £49.20 and Mid­dles­brough at £49.21.
