Minister radical on new building

Yorkshire Post - Property - - PROPERTY -

PLANNING Minister Nick Boles caused a stir this week after stating that building on another two to three per cent of the land in England would solve the housing problem.

Mr Boles said open land would be built on in exchange for commitments to defend green belt spaces. Describing current housebuilding as “ugly rubbish” on the BBC ‘s Newsnight programme, he added: “The built environment can be more beautiful than nature and we shouldn’t obsess about the fact that the only landscapes that are beautiful are open, sometimes buildings are better.”

The minister, expected to take a radical approach to his brief, said that open land, rather than green belt, will be targeted.
