Green deal to save energy is launched
THE government’s Green Deal was launched this week.
Under the scheme, households can apply for long-term loans for energy-saving improvements, such as insulation, new boilers and solar panels.
The loans will come from the Green Deal Finance Company, a government backed, non-profit making organisation. There is a £63 set up charge and £20 a year annual fee.
The repayments will be made through electricity bills attached to the house for periods of up to 25 years,
Should householders sell their home, the loans will need to be taken on by the new owner. Critics say this could affect saleability.
