Georgian house with plenty of room to work, rest and play
IT’S easy to see why Karen and Julian Slade were seduced by this Georgian property in the heart of one of Yorkshire’s most desirable villages.
The former farmhouse and converted stables are in a prime position and come with more than 4,000 sq ft of living space.
“We moved from the South East and were amazed at how much space there was in this house and we loved the location. It is on a cul-de-sac, which is very quiet and peaceful, but it’s only 50 yards from the main street with its shops, pub and Post Office,” says Karen.
She and Julian bought the property eight years ago and have since re-wired, modernised the bathrooms and redecorated.
The house has an entrance porch, reception hall, cloakroom, sitting room, family room, breakfast kitchen, dining room, utility room and a games room fitted out as a gym. On the first floor, there is a landing, principal bedroom with a dressing room and an en suite bathroom, four further bedrooms and a house bathroom.
In the west wing, there is a large playroom and a home office/ study with storage areas on the ground floor. This means there is a great opportunity to create a self-contained annexe or a homebased business.
Outside, there is a gravelled courtyard to the front which provides extensive parking and leads to the integral double garage. There are south-facing walled gardens to the front and side of the house. These are lawned and provide a safe play area for children.
Karen and Julian are selling to relocate closer to Julian’s job in the Ribble Valley
“We’ll really miss the house and the village. It’s a great place to live and it’s really friendly with lots going on,” says Karen, who is leaving an impressive legacy behind. She founded the Boston Spa Women’s Institute, which has thrived and now has 100 members. “I’ll definitely miss the WI. It’s a great organisation and a really good way of making new friends,” she says.
A spokesman for Hunters says; “The Stables is an interesting detached property, originally constructed in the mid 1800’s and which has been extended and altered over the years. It provides extremely spacious family accommodation with flexibility and versatility.”
Boston Spa is a pretty village close to Wetherby and the A1(M) and is sought-after thanks to being within easy travelling distance of Harrogate, Leeds, Tadcaster and York. It is also close to the banks of River Wharfe and is surrounded by open countryside. The route of The White Rose Way, a long distance walk from Leeds to Scarborough, passes through the village, which has a selection of shops and cafes, two tennis clubs, schools, a cricket club, pubs and a church.
