YORK-BASED ESTATE agents Ashtons has reported an encouraging start to the year with sales up by 22 per cent on the same period between January and March last year. The number of potential buyers registering with the firm has also risen.

Peter Docwra, joint owner and director of Ashtons says: “2012 saw a gradual increase in activity in the market compared to 2011, and we are delighted to report that this trend is continuing with such a positive start to 2013. What is most interesting is the increase in the number of potential buyers now feeling confident enough to take advantage of the increased number of mortgages available.

“House prices are predicted to remain quite flat and this is helping to encourage interest.”
