One in 10 miss out on gas safety check

Yorkshire Post - Property - - PROPERTY -

A SURVEY of over 4,300 tenants in England found that one in 10 had not had an annual gas safety check organised by their landlord or letting agent.

A related survey with landlords found that one in seven did not know that it was their legal responsibility to organise an annual gas safety check and certificate. Both surveys were made jointly by Shelter and British Gas.

Shelter boss Campbell Robb said: “It’s shocking to think that in thousands of households across the country there are accidents waiting to happen because a simple safety check has not taken place. It’s vital that renters are aware of the need to get an annual gas safety check. As for landlords, it is their legal duty.”
