‘Grandest privy’ speeds sale
A PROPERTY in Leeds sold within a week and it may have been because of its outside toilet.
The grade two listed house at Alma Cottages in Headingley boasts its own castellated loo, with turrets and battlements.
The outhouse at the Victorian cottage has featured in the BBC TV programme How We Built Britain and architectural historian Pevsner called it “one of the grandest outside privies in England; in blocks of two with crenellated parapets”.
The property was sold by estate agents Castlehill within five days of going on the market for £225,000. Director Simon Ketteringham said: “It’s eyecatching. I have not seen anything like it and it provided a big talking point on viewings.”
