A SHARE of £17m is up for grabs for anyone planning new community building projects in the North.

Housing Minister Mark Prisk announced the fund, which will offer additional support to people with plans and ideas for their neighbourhood, which could range from self-build homes to community shops.

Jennifer Hadland, of Smiths Gore’s Planning department, says: “This means that communities can work together to make positive changes to the areas in which they live; whether it’s a new playground, renovating an empty home or making plots available for house building.”

The fund is available for communities outside London until March 2015.
