Pay the price if you wait to fix a leak

HOME­OWN­ERS are wait­ing an aver­age of six months to fix a leak in their homes with many wait­ing over a year, re­search by Rat­edPeo­ple.com has found.

Around 40 per cent of home­own­ers claim that their prop­erty suf­fered ex­ten­sive dam­age from a seem­ingly mi­nor leak.

The study also showed that our leaky taps are wast­ing 1,669,800,000 litres of wa­ter ev­ery year. Some 15 per cent of home­own­ers ad­mit­ted to ig­nor­ing a leak in the hope that it would re­solve it­self. One in 10 said that they knew they had a prob­lem with their pipes, which could have been fixed ear­lier, but they waited un­til the dam­age was done be­fore tak­ing ac­tion to fix it.
