The buildings come with planing permission to convert into a 3,900sq ft five bedroom house, while the remains are in the grounds and are an optional extra for the buyer.

The development site, which is on the market for £300,000, has views over Beaver Dyke Reservoir and measures 1.45 acres with the castle extending to 0.95 acres

The castle, now reduced to ruins, is thought to have been John of Gaunt’s hunting lodge. Edward III began building it in 1334 and in 1372 granted it to John of Gaunt, who was his son and was the Duke of Lancaster. Contact Carter Jonas, 01423 422039.
