Over-55s are the big spenders

HOME­OWN­ERS in York­shire are spend­ing an av­er­age of £11,000 on any one project, ac­cord­ing to new re­search by Ben Bai­ley Homes. The YouGov sur­vey also re­vealed that more than three­quar­ters (76 per cent) of York­shire home­own­ers have made im­prove­ments to their cur­rent prop­erty.

The rea­sons vary with over half of those sur­veyed say­ing they were nec­es­sary to cre­ate the home they want, while 20 per cent wanted to add more liv­ing space to their house and 19 per cent wanted a big­ger kitchen.

UK home­own­ers aged 55 and above spend more than any other age group, in­vest­ing an av­er­age of al­most £15,000 on one project.
