Ten­ants urged to act on rent ar­rears

TEN­ANTS fall­ing be­hind on their rent pay­ments should take im­me­di­ate ac­tion and speak to their landlords be­fore the prob­lem es­ca­lates, says ten­ant evic­tion and rent re­cov­ery ser­vice Land­lord As­sist.

The ad­vice comes af­ter a re­port by the Money Ad­vice Trust stated that their Debtline helpline had re­ceived 20,000 calls from peo­ple be­hind with their rent in 2013, with the char­ity re­veal­ing that more than half of all their calls now come from peo­ple rent­ing their home.

The char­ity adds that calls from peo­ple with rent ar­rears have in­creased 37 per cent over the last two years, and 13 per cent in the last 12 months.

Rent ar­rears are now the fastest­grow­ing debt prob­lem in the UK.
