HOUSE prices are likely to keep on rising for the next ten years, according to the Chancellor George Osborne.

He told the House of Lords that the country’s shortage of housing was an historic problem and criticised “nimbys” for slowing down planning reforms.

“I imagine if we were to assemble in ten years’ time, we would still be talking about the challenge of making sure that our housing supply keeps up with demand,” he said.

He also defended the government’s Help to Buy phase two scheme, which is aimed at helping first time buyers and second steppers to obtain 95 per cent mortgages on both new and second-hand homes.
