BUILDING: The skills shortage in the construction industry has got worse and has now spread beyond bricklayers and carpenters to other key trades, according to the latest research by the Federation of Master Builders. The FMB’s latest State of Trade Survey shows that almost half of construction’s small to mediumsized businesses are reporting difficulties hiring roofers and shortages of electricians and plasterers are at their highest point in four years. Brian Berry, Chief Executive of the FMB, said: “This is driving up costs for small firms and adding to the pressure of soaring material prices linked to the weaker pound.”
