PRICES: The Nationwide property index shows that the annual rate of average house price growth in the UK remained broadly stable last month. It stood at 4.3 per cent, only modestly below the growth rate in December of

4.5 per cent. House prices increased by 0.2 per cent over the month, after taking account of seasonal factors. Robert Gardner, Nationwide’s Chief Economist, says: “The outlook for the housing market remains clouded, reflecting the uncertainty surrounding economic prospects. There are grounds for optimism. The economy has remained far stronger than expected.”
