Good day: Charlie Wyke

Missed five weeks with a torn calf sustained in pre-season but this was a return to the striker who arrived full of confidence from Carlisle last January.

Bad day: Bristol Rovers supporters

Not even the breakfast butty laid on by SkyBet as the away coaches set off for Yorkshire at 6am could lift a truly miserable day for the 395 hardy souls who made the trip north.

Key moment: 73rd minute

Charlie Wyke clinched the match-ball with a back-post header, meaning even Billy Bodin netting for Rovers could not prevent a comfortable home win.

Ref watch: David Webb

Upset Rovers, who claimed their players had been impeded for the opening two goals, but contributed to a free-flowing game with sensible handling of proceedings.

City’s best performance of the season by some distance. Rovers clearly missed their two central defenders on international duty but, even so, this was a comprehensive victory for the hosts.
