Field strengthens cyclo-cross lead
CYCLING: Keighley cyclo-cross rider Ian Field strengthened his lead in the National Trophy Series with victory in round three at Shrewsbury Sports Village.
The 31-year-old professional with the Hargroves Cycles team crossed the line well clear of his rivals. It was Field’s second win of the series, having settled for second in round two when Leeds rider and reigning national and world junior champion Tom Pidcock took the win.
But with Pidcock absent, it was business as usual for Field.
In other categories, Bradford’s Sophie Thackray (PH MAS-Paul Milnes) was third in the women’s race, while Jenson Young (PH-MAS Paul Milnes Cycles) had to settle for fourth spot in the junior men’s race. And taking after his older brother, Joseph Pidcock was Under-16 boys’ winner.
Elsewhere, veteran Jamie Sharp was in excellent form taking victory at the Bradley Wood Cyclo-Cross event in Brighouse, West Yorkshire.
The 43-year-old Feather Cycles rider from York made up a minute on the senior riders to claim victory from Thomas Selby (RNRMCA) by 40 seconds.
Richard Middleton was third, while Rebecca Jones was fastest woman.
