Morland carries his bat to seal progress
YORKSHIRE LEAGUES KNOCKOUT CUP: Appleby Frodingham, languishing at the bottom of Yorkshire South with just one win, booked a spot in the quarter-finals at the expense of cup holders Stamford Bridge.
Opener Ryan Gibson (42) was top scorer in Bridge’s 196-9, but any hopes they had that the home side would collapse were swept away with an opening stand of 106 between captain Matthew Morland and Ryan Schierhout (44).
Morland went on to make 68no and with Kieran Lindley (40no), saw Appleby Frodingham home by eight wickets.
Olivier Leedham produced a stunning 4.1-over spell of 5-4 and with Alex Rose (3-39) skittled out Treeton for 84. Nick Jones (43no) then eased York through.
A 99-run partnership between Christopher Bilton (90) and James Finch, who included five fours and four sixes in his 64no, helped Woodhouse Grange race to 277-7 in their 40 overs. That proved far too good for Scarborough who were bowled out for 131, Chris Suddaby taking 4-23.
Sheffield Collegiate looked on top in the clash of the top two in Yorkshire South when Tom Eldred (3-43) and Jamie Carrington (4-14) restricted Wakefield Thornes to 142. But their batting never got going and Josh Shaw (4-30) and Steve Morgan (3-12) bowled them out for 106.
