Erica’s spring flowers looking pretty good
PLANT OF THE WEEK
TIME for a bit of colour – heather. This is not the sort which clothes the Yorkshire moors in late August; this is the Erica which produces lovely spring flowers, comes in a variety of colours and is looking pretty good at the moment. It prefers a moist, welldrained acidic soil and plenty of sunshine. Give it all these and it should thrive. After flowering, trim off the old growth. It’s ideal in containers or as ground cover and, depending on the variety, can grow from just a few inches in height to more than a foot.
