God’s own country deserves far better
IT was disappointing that the winner of the Award for North Eastern Wine Merchant of the Year came from Derbyshire, not Yorkshire.
I am sure that John Hattersley Wines won this accolade fair and square, beating Yorkshire-based House of Townend on this occasion.
Townend has won this award for the last three years, so perhaps it was time for someone to knock them off that particular pedestal but I was disappointed that not one of our terrific smaller Yorkshire wine merchants was even shortlisted.
Next year it would be good to see merchants such as Field & Fawcett, Halifax Wine Co., Harrogate Fine Wine, Bon Coeur or Roberts and Speight on that list.
