Terrence Malick has had one of the strangest films of any Hollywood director, even going AWOL for 20 years before returning with 1998’s The Thin Red Line. Here’s a chance to see his feature debut, which remains one of the most impressive films of the 1970s and now has a cult following. It’s a bleak drama starring Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek which is based in the real-life Starkweather-Fugate case of the 1950s. After killing his girlfriend’s father, a would-be rebel takes her on the run with him across Midwestern America, and bumps off anybody else who dares to confront them.
On the run: Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek star.
