Boeing has been in the UK for 80 years and employs 2,200 staff

BOEING SHEFFIELD will make actuation system parts for the firm’s Next-Generation 737, 737MAX and 777 aeroplanes.

Actuators move the flaps on the trailing edge of an aeroplane wing to provide extra lift at low speeds during take-off and landing.

Sir Michael Arthur, president of Boeing Europe, said: “This is further evidence of Boeing’s long-term commitment to the prosperity of this country. We are grateful to the communities of Sheffield and Rotherham, as well as the City Council and Local Enterprise Partnership for supporting us.”

Boeing employs more than 2,200 people in the UK. It spent £2.1bn with the UK aerospace industry in 2016 and says it supports 16,500 jobs in the supply chain. It has been in the UK for 80 years.
