Tunnel is ideal site for hive

Yorkshire Post - - NEWS -

BUILT IN 1811, Standedge Tunnel, near Huddersfield, is the country’s highest, longest and deepest canal tunnel. The land surrounding it also turns out to be a perfect for bees.

Sam Christopher, duty manager of the visitor centre, said: “We are set in a secluded valley amidst spectacular scenery, so I can’t think of a more beautiful, peaceful place to keep bees.

“Not many places are big enough to safely accommodate 10 hives but our site is perfect. In time, we hope to be able to sell the honey in our shop and use it in the food served in the café. Everything starts with small steps and our own history shows that a good idea allied to hard work and innovation can be the start of something big.”
