Harrogate spa takes top hotel crown
HARROGATE’S RUDDING Park Hotel is named today as the UK’s best spa destination.
The Swinton Park Hotel at Masham also makes the list of top spas, in the 2017 edition of the Sunday Times Best Places to Stay guide.
Rudding Park’s principal attraction is said by the guide to be its “drop-dead gorgeous rooftop garden”, a woodland glade in the sky created by Matthew Wilson, who is a regular on Gardeners’ Question Time.
The guide’s travel editor Stephen Bleach said: “It’s great to see the North stamping its authority on the UK’s increasingly important spa scene.
“Rudding Park and Swinton Park in Yorkshire have both invested millions in wellness facilities that give Asia’s big names a run for their money.”
Recommendations for other types of establishment include the Michelin-starred Star Inn at Harome, near Kirkbymoorside, the Victorian Stow House B&B at Aysgarth Falls in the Yorkshire Dales, and in the city category, the four-star Principal Hotel in the centre of York.
Mr Bleach said: “This region offers a huge variety of places to stay, from cute country pubs to elegant stately piles, as well as some of the most stunning scenery in the country.”
