Yorkshire Post - - NEWS -

A NEW award has been set up in the name of York schoolgirl Katie Rough, who was killed in a park.

The family of Katie, who was selective mute, were members of SMIRA, the Selective Mutism Information and Research Association.

Now it has announced that a new prize at the Shine a Light Awards, a national awards scheme recognising innovation in supporting children’s communication development, will include a new category for selective mutism, The Katie Rough Memorial Award. Katie was found with severe lacerations to her neck and chest in January. A 16-year-old girl has admitted killing her.
