Health bosses criticised over cash

-

HEALTH BOSSES have been criticised for failing to act on a £91,000 offer from Parkinsons UK for a community-based nurse to help sufferers in East Yorkshire.

The offer has been on the table for at least a year and unless there is a response from the clinical commissioning groups (CCGs) by the end of March, the money will go elsewhere. Nurses are vital to check sufferers are on the right medication, but due to staff shortages, there is just one parttime nurse for more than 1,300 patients in Hull and the East Riding.

Cilla Dickinson, from Roos, was diagnosed last May and was supposed to be seeing a nurse within three months. After three cancelled appointments, she finally saw one in December, but will now have to wait until June for a follow-up.

Husband Barrie is extremely concerned as her condition has deteriorated rapidly. He said: “When she saw the consultant she was upright and shuffling, but by August her head had gone down. Without seeing a nurse there’s no way of knowing whether she is on the right medication.”

Mr Dickinson has appealed to the Hull and East Riding CCGs “to get their fingers out”. The Parkinsons UK charity has been pushing for more nurses since 2013, and a spokesman said: “Right now people in Hull and East Yorkshire are desperately angry and concerned about the quality of services.”

East Riding CCG said it was “working to resolve the situation”.
