Cable dismisses ‘new party’ talk

Yorkshire Post - - POLITICS & ECONOMY -

SIR VINCE Cable has said it will be too difficult to set up a new centrist party and instead urged disaffected Tory and Labour MPs to join the Liberal Democrats.

Sir Vince has previously denied plotting a new anti-Brexit party but reports suggest he could change the Lib Dems’ name to win over MPs from rivals.

“The problems of setting up a new party are just so horrendous it just doesn’t make sense,” he said.

“If other people, particularly from the Labour Party, or there may be odd Tories who want to constitute some new grouping, well we will work with them because there’s no point working against each other.

“But I think even those people who are talking about it realise it’s very difficult.”
