TOP OF MY GIFT LIST
Present ideas from fragrance icon Jo Malone MBE
Do you have a signature wedding present? Throughout the year, I collect pieces of linen and put them in a scented box. There might be a couple of those wonderful Egyptian cotton hand towels and pillow cases, and I layer them all in white tissue, which I scent with cologne. When I was little, my grandmother had a “bottom drawer”, and this is based on that tradition. When I got married 33 years ago, I had a spaghetti pan set as mine – I’ll never forget that my grandmother bought it, and I’ve still got it.
Which room is the most important when building a gift list? For me, bed linen is very important. I change our bed linen three times a week! I love that feel of really crisp cotton sheets, and I don’t think there’s anyone that could beat The White Company for these.
What are your wedding fragrance tips? I would say go for your favourite fragrance and then put another note into it – paint something new into it that is really di erent. Just something that makes that fragrance really individual and special to you. Or, you could mimic the flowers that are in your bouquet.
How important is scent in the home? My whole home is fragranced with pomello. When I’m away, I take a little bottle of cologne with me – the first thing I do is unpack and spray it all the way through the hotel suite so I feel as though I’m at home.

They look so beautiful when you walk into the room.” LSA Light storm lantern 29cm, £45, The Wedding Shop “I don’t really drink champagne, but I’ll have a fine rosé wine, poured into the saucer with some raspberries that have been frozen with a little bit of ginger.” LSA Aurelia champagne saucers, £50 for four, The Wedding Shop “A barbecue isn’t just for summer.
