Charlotte shares a tip

Your Chickens - - Charlotte's Chickens -

In the cold, your drinkers will freeze up. It is a good idea to empty them in the evening so that you can put out fresh water in the mornings. I have broken quite a few plastic drinkers by banging them too hard to unlock the frozen contents, thus smashing a hole in them! The other problem in the colder months is that my older hens love to take over the nest boxes to roost in despite the perches being on a higher level as always recommended. The nest boxes lined with straw are much the warmest spot. I just have to clean out any dirty straw in the morning before egg laying starts!
