THE COCHIN

Your Chickens - - Feature | Products -

This is a big, fluffy, friendly chicken! The Cochin, pictured right, is one of the largest breeds and has masses of feathers right down to its toes. Even the toes have feathers, while the Cochin’s legs look as if they are wearing fluffy trousers. As this is a heavy-weight chicken, it might be too large for little children to pick up, but otherwise the Cochin makes a good pet. They are very easy to tame and will live in a run quite happily - a covered run would be best to protect all those feathers. In fine weather they’ll look lovely wandering in the garden, and they are less likely to scratch in the flowerbeds than some of the more active breeds. Like the Pekin Bantam, the Cochin originally came from China, and apart from size the two chickens look very similar.
