Your Chickens - - Feature | Breeds -

The Araucana originates from Chile and it is widely held that the name is derived from the Araucania territory in the north of the country. The indigenous Indians of this region had created this form of jungle fowl and it was obtained by the Spanish when the travelled South America. Little is known about its ancestry and scientists today are still trying to establish if, in its original form, it is linked to the ancestors of the domestic chicken, or is in fact completely unrelated.
