Spring Cleaning!

Your Chickens - - Egg-sposé -

“Why are you two up so early in the holidays?” asked Mum.

“We’ve got a busy day,” replied Poppy, finishing her breakfast.

“We’re spring cleaning,” said George, spilling his milk. “But it’s summer,” said Mum. “The best time for chicken springcleaning,” said Poppy. “We need a sunny day.”

“Does that mean you’re using the hose again?” groaned Mum. “Please don’t flood the garden!”

“We’ll be careful…” promised George, disappearing outside.

Mum came out later with cold drinks and snacks. “It looks like you’ve been busy,” she said.

“We took the chicken-house to pieces and scrubbed it really well,” said George. “Then we washed the feeder and drinker, and even the bins where we keep the food.”

“We used special chicken disinfectant on everything,” said Poppy. “There’s not a bit of dirt left anywhere.”

“Will the chicken-house dry before the chickens go to bed?” asked Mum.

“Oh yes,” said Poppy. “That’s why we started early. It will dry in the sunshine and fresh air, which is really healthy.”
