Do chickens need to have layers feed?

Q Do I have to give my hens layers feed?

Andy Cawthray says: Feeding chickens for egg production is quite different from feeding young growers or table birds. In fact, using the correct feed is an integral of any production system, whether it be small or large, for eggs or meat, or organic or traditional, and raising birds in the best possible conditions is all for naught if the feed they consume does not provide the right nutrients at the right levels. Whilst the general principles and ingredients are similar, feed formulations do vary ensuring that the birds receive the correct dietary building blocks in the correct quantities to maintain their health and, in the case of laying hens, to produce high-quality eggs in good numbers.
