HOW TO THINK LIKE A MOTHER HEN

Your Chickens - - Feature | Hatching -

• Location, location, location; Keep very young chicks inside where ambient temperatures are at least 15°C.

• Chicks are heat experts! Watch and listen to baby chicks. If they are cheeping unhappily or are huddled together while awake, they’re likely to be too cold. If they’re spread out around the edges of the brooder, away from the heat source, they could be too hot. Chicks that are comfortably warm will be eating, drinking, exploring and cheeping happily. Noisy chicks are unhappy chicks!

• Safety first; Choose a safe heat source and provide only enough warmth according to the chicks’ behaviour.
