The Barn­evelder was de­vel­oped in the Dutch town of Barn­eveld just prior to the on­set of the First World War putting it amongst some of the lat­est ‘pure breeds’ to be cre­ated. It is be­lieved that Cochins, Brah­mas, Croad Lang­shans and Malays con­sti­tute part of their makeup along with var­i­ous un­doc­u­mented cross breeds.
