Ride for Research
I’d love to introduce Your Horse readers to Ride for Research, a committee set up just over a year ago to raise money for Cancer Research UK (CRUK). My initial idea was to set up a local sponsored ride to help my friend’s mum (Karen Lane) raise money for CRUK. Karen had already raised more than £50,000 for CRUK and had a target of £100,000. She has had her own battle with cancer and is a super strong survivor, her story is incredible. The ‘local’ sponsored ride I organised soon turned into a nationwide event. I thought, ‘why just organise this myself, why not have riders all across the country getting involved and hacking out on the same day?’. The idea behind the Ride for Research is that people can complete their ride wherever they like, and ride as far or as a short a distance as they like. Riders then take photos, track their journey with a tracking app and upload them to our Facebook page afterwards. This simple concept really took off and more than 400 riders took part, lots of raffle prizes were donated and an amazing £21,721.00 raised.
