JUMP AT AN ANGLE

-

Teaching your horse to jump at an angle is great because it encourages him to listen to the line you want him to take, rather than it being governed by the jump. In a jump off, jumping at an angle could also shave seconds off your time, so try this exercise to practise your turns. HOW TO RIDE IT 1. Ride around the school on a right rein to establish a steady trot. 2. Come off the track towards your jump at K (or a quarter of the way up your long side) and ride straight towards M. 3. Jump the fence and continue towards M, preparing to change onto the left rein. 4. At H, turn down towards your jump and trot back over the jump heading towards F. 5. At F, turn back onto the right rein and bring him to walk. TAKE IT UP A LEVEL: Happy in trot? Do it in canter.
