Want to learn how to handcraft a saddle?
Study on the only full-time saddlery course in Europe at Capel Manor College
ASADDLE IS CURVY, comfortable and, for riders, its function is to make us all feel secure. It consists of a seat, a pommel and a cantle, and many other parts besides, but how do you make one, and who actually crafts them? Could this be a career for you?
Capel Manor College, London’s environmental college, offers the only full-time saddlery course in Europe where you can learn traditional skills making handcrafted saddles, as well as bridles, harnesses and other leather accessories. The prestigious Worshipful Company of Cordwainers’ Diploma in Saddle, Harness and Bridle Making starts this September at the college’s Enfield Campus. The two-year course will introduce you to the traditional and modern production methods of the saddlery industry. If you have artistic flair, good business sense and are interested in horses and riding, then this will be the ideal course for you. Capel Manor College students go on to work in a wide range of careers, including making, selling, restoring and repairing saddles, bridles, harnesses and leather goods. Others find work in the leather or fashion industries designing and creating leather goods, costumes and accessories.
