The needs of your skin can seem overwhelming, with so many different types of skincare products on the market – all promising great results. Understanding which products you really need (and which you don’t) will save you time and money – and free up space in the bathroom! But which can we ditch? Once a skincare essential, toners were designed to remove cleanser residue. You don’t need this with modern cleansers, so you can skip this step. It’s also unnecessary to spend a small fortune on cleansers that claim to do more than cleanse! Most cleansers with big anti-ageing claims are unlikely to reach their full potential, when they stay on the skin for seconds. However, cleansing is the most important part of your routine and if you get it wrong you strip the skin of essential oils or leave it clogged with dirt. Face wipes can be convenient, but don’t use every day. Look for a reasonably priced cleanser that promises to be hydrating and effective, yet gentle. Lastly, a dedicated neck cream is another product you can do without. Combat ageing signs by extending your usual face cream down your neck to your décolletage. If sagging is an issue look for face creams that promise to firm and lift.
