Home from home

YOURS (UK) - - Over To You -

We did the very thing that Val Dawson (Lady in the Lodge) did when she moved into a lodge in her family’s garden. Three years ago, due to unforeseen circumstances, my husband and I were without a home. Two years before, my daughter and her family had moved to an older property with a large garden with two big sheds in. I jokingly said ‘put our name on that for when we retire’. Little did I know, that a few years later, we’d be living in a specially built cabin in their garden. My grandchildren come for breakfast, and we are on hand for each other. We’re in the middle of building a summer house for extra space! We have our 50th wedding anniversary next year and, hopefully, many more years with our family. Sue Cooper, Ashford What a great idea, creating a Lady Lodge for Val so she could be independent, yet still be close to her family. Everyone seems to win – they see each other whenever they choose, they benefit financially and can share the household chores. This would also be great for young adults wanting some independence from their parents, but not yet able to manage financially to leave home. Tracey Holmes, Suffolk
