Make sure you buckle in your grandchildren correctly when you take them out in the car. New research from LV= reveals more than half of grandparents are unaware of the UK’s child car-seat law and almost one in four never uses a car seat, believing children are safe with just a seatbelt. Children must normally use a child car seat until they’re 12 or 135cm tall, whichever comes first. Those not sticking to the law risk a £500 fine as well as putting grandchildren in danger. The insurer is calling on the Government to work in partnership with schools and the authorities to raise awareness among grandparents – and parents – to ensure they are driving children safely and legally.
