PASSPORT COSTS TO RISE
The cost of applying for a passport will rise on March 27. If you apply for yours by post – rather than online – you’ll see the biggest fee increase. At the moment it costs £72.50 to apply for a passport by post, but that will go up to £85.
If you use the Post Office’s ‘check and send’ service, which makes sure your passport application doesn’t have errors, the cost will go up from £82.25 to £94.75.
If you apply for your passport online, the cost will only rise by £3 – from £72.50 to £75.50.
The good news is that you may be able to beat the price rise if you want to renew your passport by applying now. It’s perfectly legal to apply for a new passport before your existing one has run out, if you have up to nine months left on it. Any time left will be added to your new passport.
