Strictly beside the seaside
One of the most eagerly awaited Strictly shows is the trip to Blackpool and this year it’s on November 17.
Transporting Strictly to the town’s famous Tower Ballroom, the crew travel up the Monday before to start laying the hundreds of miles of cable, setting up lights and building sets.
“We work with an outside broadcast truck and everything has to be built from scratch – we have to turn the ballroom into Strictly,” says Nikki Parsons who has directed the show. Strictly celebs and their partners arrive in Blackpool the day before the show.
Friday is costume fitting, spray tanning and camera rehearsal day and each couple get at least three full chances to do their routine. On Saturday, the stars arrive at 9am and go straight into hair and make-up, then costume before taking to the famous floor. The dress rehearsal ends around 4.30pm and an hour later, the 1000-strong audience start taking their seats.
